Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Loved the Kheng Som fish very much. Spicy level and the flavourful taste of the fish= Prefect for a rainy weather"
"The steamed red snapper lemon chilli fish was the star of the night; spicy enough without being too sour. I found the paku vege or fern kinda hard, maybe it was a bit old. Anyway, happy to find another Thai restaurant that I can go to in future."
"Service is quick and food is amazing! Very authentic Thai cuisine and good portion, staffs are very helpful and friendly too."
"This is, first and foremost, an authentically flavored Thai restaurant. The Tom Yum Goong is a perfect example, as it masterfully preserves the pure, traditional essence and flavor profile. What truly sets it apart is the sourness: the soup is remarkably and delightfully sour, much more so than at most other Thai establishments, making it genuinely invigorating. Many of the stir-fries were also impressive, exhibiting excellent 'Wok Hei' (the fragrant, smoky flavor imparted by a hot wok). This was especially noticeable in the stir-fried fern shoots, the Pad Sen Mee (fried vermicelli/glass noodles), and the Pad Krapow (Holy Basil Stir-fry). The generous portions are another definite plus. Furthermore, the unique pairing of sour mango and fried fish is a brilliant, palate-cleansing highlight. The presentation is noteworthy: a bowl of tart mango pieces is only poured over the freshly fried seabass upon serving. This clever technique ensures the fish retains its wonderful crispness while the mango's refreshing fruit aroma and acidity perfectly cut through any richness. The only minor drawback was the texture of the squid in the Pineapple Fried Rice; it was too soft, which slightly detracted from the overall mouthfeel of the dish. Overall, a highly recommended spot for genuine Thai cuisine."
"Food are all good, especially the cai por fried fish. Portion just nice. One of my family's favourite place for dinner. We would surely return for more family gathering. Just that when there are more people who talk loudly, it's kinda noisy in the whole restaurant."
"I'm happy to say that this restaurant is back to providing it's original taste and that is very good! The food is freshly made and prepared on the spot, taste is authentic and packs a real flavorful combination of aroma and fragrance. In particular, the otak otak was great with seafood and cooked with fresh basil leaves, such an excellent combination of spices together. Lastly the plum sauce steam fish had a very strong sour and slightly spicy taste, I almost took a spoon to keep drinking the gravy like it's a soup. Come here for a good and reasonable priced meal, remember to make a reservation before coming here."
"Every time I visited George Town, Penang, i definitely wanted to visit Khun De Thai Restaurant. Food is really nice, 200% high recommendation to everyone who likes to eat Thai food."
"Homestyle restaurant, parking is a big problem, need to turn a few corners before you can get one. Food is delicious and tastes quite different from other Thai restaurant. Price after tax is slightly higher than market."
